The article has some interesting history of January fires.  In the mid 1800's a wildfire started on Ute Pass burned all the way to Breckenridge. In January, 1950 a wildfire at Fort Carson killed 7 people and destroyed 100 buildings. I will have to track down and verify this story - it would put it in the top ten deadliest wildfires in Colorado.
