Boulder Resident Gets Once-In-A-Lifetime Photo of 3 Mountain Lion Cubs on His Deck
News Link
Mountain lions usually have litters of 2 or 3 cubs each year. Based on the estimated number of mountain lions in Colorado, the total number of cubs born each year is somewhere in the hundreds to low thousands range. They hang around with mom for 18 months before going out on their own to establish their own territories. It is at this crucial stage that the young mountain lions learn to hunt prey on their own and a very small number of them don't get it right. Many of the 10 mountain lion attacks that have occurred in Colorado since 1970, including the recent attack of a 5-year-old boy in Aspen, were by juvenile mountain lions.

CAIC: Avalanches Haven't Run This Big Since the 80's
News Link
There is a cycle to weather patterns and one of the cycle lengths is 30-35 years driven by changes in Pacific ocean currents called the Pacific Decadal Oscillation. The current weather pattern of sustained chinook winds in excess of 100 mph hasn't been seen since the early 90's and was a regular feature of Colorado's weather during the 80's. The weather pattern that produces strong chinooks and warm, clear weather over the Front Range is accompanied by simultaneous heavy snowfall in the mountains.

A rare event. The last time avalanches were reported this close to Golden was 2003 after a 5 foot snowstorm. There is less than 1 foot of snow now, they should probably field check these to see if they are shallow landslides that carried snow along.
