Rockfall Mitigation Work to Begin Tuesday in Glenwood Canyon

News Link

The work will continue throughout the summer and closures of 45 minutes to 5.5 hours will happen between 9AM and 2:30 PM Tuesdays through Thursday.

This work is presented as CDOT's permanent solution for Mile 125 after the February rockfall closed I-70 for a week. It will consist of 4 rockfall fences installed in difficult terrain. Apparently (and thankfully) the evaluation of a rock shed was rejected as too expensive. There have been rockfall incidents in the past where rocks falling from near the top of the cliff had enough energy  to bounce over the top of rockfall fences. No details of the design or height of the fences are provided in this article.
