1. Air blast from lightning can injure ear drums and cause severe nose bleeds.

2. Air blast from lightning strike can knock you flat on the ground causing any number of serious injuries depending on how you land and if there are rocks or other objects on the ground.

3. Lightning can cause a tree to literally explode sending out wood "shrapnel" at high speed.

4. Lightning can break large limbs or the main trunk of trees that land on you.

It was tough getting back home yesterday from Santa Fe. Thick smoke was in the air when we crossed the border at Antonito, gave me a headache and cough. The Spring wildfire jumped Hwy 160 west of Fort Garland - road closed, now up to 42,000 acres.  The Weston Pass Fire closed 285 between Hwy 24 junction and Fairplay.
